Last month, we added $OGY swaps and hinted toward more coming to the protocol

Well, we’re here to bring you more!

Today, we’re opening trading and liquidity providing for $BOX, a utility token from the Boxy Dude collection.

$BOX Token Utility Breakdown 📦🧍‍♂️

Boxy Dude is a collection of 10k breedable and collectible NFTs living on the Internet Computer. This past week, the Boxy team asked holders to store their delisted BOXY NFTs in a Plug wallet for a $BOX airdrop.

Airdrops will continue every month, splitting allocation between holders of BOXY Dudes and their companion collection, BOXY Girls. The first airdrop is scheduled for the first week of August. The snapshot date is yet to announce for the airdrop, so you still have time to be eligible for the airdrop!

The primary purpose of $BOX tokens is to enable breeding/in-game currency and governance 👪🏛️

Players can use $BOX to purchase objects from the marketplace or the in-game store, mint new BOXY NFTs, stake, borrow an NFT, and vote in governance.

Swapping 🛒

We first introduced the concept of ‘Chained Swaps’ with our $OGY release, which we continue to use to provide the most cost-efficient swaps.

Sonic automatically routes your transaction in a path that produces the lowest fees and best output. Hover over 🔗 to see your swapping path!

Providing Liquidity 💧

The $BOX/$WICP pair has already been funded with seed liquidity, but you can easily provide your own to start earning LP rewards ✅

What’s Next? 🔮

The addition of $BOX signifies the beginning of our promise of bringing permissionless token additions to Sonic.

Up until recently, Sonic’s token pair offerings have stayed relatively stagnant. This was a design choice, we’ve been working behind the scenes to restructure Sonic to a multi-canister architecture where each pool becomes a canister of its own.

This allows us to do some really cool things like having automatic token additions and composable LP tokens (yes, you’ll be able to trade LP tokens on the IC!).

We are code complete on this architecture restructure and are committing the changes to the UI of the Sonic app now — this should complete sometime in August.

Until then, we’ll be manually adding any and all new projects to the protocol by request. The only requirement is that tokens must follow the DIP20 standard.

Reach out in our Discord server to get your project’s token added!

That’s all from us today! See you in the next update 👋
